FDA recalls Qualitest birth control pills

Birth control pillsThe FDA has announced a recall on Qualitest Pharmaceuticals oral contraceptives. Click here to view a complete list of products and affected lot numbers.

The recall is being implemented because of a packaging error, which can be detected by examining each blister pack for a lot number and expiry date on the back of the card, visible through the window on the back of the package. Product that has been improperly packaged has no visible lot number and no expiry date.

The Student Health Care Center Pharmacy records lot numbers and expiration dates for every prescription dispensed, and we have not found any defective products in our inventory. Nonetheless, we have removed the products from our shelves and are offering a full refund to any patient who has a defective product.

We appreciate your patience as we work through this issue. Women affected by the recall should use a non-hormonal form of birth control, such as condoms, immediately.
