The University of Florida Student Health Care Center (SHCC) is seeking an unpaid intern for the spring 2014 semester, with the possibility of the position being extended into the summer 2014 semester with pay. Meeting the healthcare needs of UF students since 1906, the mission of the SHCC is to help each student achieve maximum physical and emotional health so that each may participate fully in the educational and personal growth opportunities afforded by the University. The SHCC is committed to providing the highest quality primary health care.

The SHCC communications office handles facility/service marketing and public relations, including social media efforts, as well as patient education efforts. Applicants can expect the internship to provide a well-balanced experience with newer social media tools as well as traditional communication strategies.

This experience will include:

  1. Writing and compiling information for blog posts, press releases and social media platforms
  2. Updating the SHCC website (http://shcc.ufl.edu) – basic html and WordPress
  3. Developing promotional materials for both print and web platforms
  4. Exploring creative ways to engage and expand the SHCC social media network

Education Level Preferred

  • Graduate student or junior/senior working toward degree in marketing, public relations, communications or related field

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite programs
  • Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to act independently on multiple projects at one time
  • Mature judgment and consistent follow through in all areas of responsibility
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and ensure deliverables are accomplished in a timely and efficient manner
  • Position requires creativity, flexibility and resourcefulness
