Health Insurance Options

Though not required to access our services, the university and the Student Health Care Center strongly encourage all students to carry some form of health insurance coverage.

Although SHCC Patient Financial Services (Phone: 352-273-4546 or e-mail: insurance@shcc.ufl.edu) is here to help, it is the patient’s responsibility to know what their insurance policy covers — and the patient is ultimately liable for any charges not covered by insurance. Use the toll-free number on the insurance card to find out policy benefits in detail from the insurance company in advance of care.

At a glance:

Is insurance required to use the SHCC?

No. Students may choose to self-pay for services, and many basic services, such as medical consultations, are covered by the tuition-included student health fee.

Do I have to use my insurance to receive care?

No. Students are not required to disclose insurance coverage; however, fees for services are typically more affordable with insurance coverage.

Will the SHCC take my family’s insurance?

Yes. The SHCC currently contracts with more than 60 insurance companies and 130 individual plans.* Verify your coverage with the SHCC ahead of your first appointment and save time in the waiting room! Click here to get started.

*EXCEPTIONS: The SHCC Pharmacy currently accepts university-sponsored prescription plans and the following commercial prescription plans: Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield of Florida, CVS/Caremark, Medco and Prescription Solutions; other commercial plans may also be accepted — contact us with questions or for more information: (352) 392-1760. Additionally, physical therapy and massage therapy services are currently only billable through university-sponsored insurance plans, though these services are also available through self-pay.
