Eligibility for Care

All students affiliated with the University of Florida are eligible to obtain care at the UF Student Health Care Center. The amount due out-of-pocket, also known as patient responsibility, for office visits and services is determined by your health fee payment status: either paid (current student), or not (off-semester student, student spouse/domestic partner, etc.).

Students Paying Health Fee

Current students – those who are either registered for classes now or will be registering for classes for the upcoming semester – pay the health fee as part of their tuition. The health fee covers unlimited office visits (consultations).

What the health fee does not cover – and what the SHCC will bill your insurance for – are services rendered. These include but are not limited to: physicals; procedures; X-rays; lab tests; medical equipment; prescriptions; non-prescription medications; vaccinations; hospital visits; and external community providers/facilities, including UF Health Shands. Final charges will appear on the UF account for payment.

Other Patient Categories

Off-semester students, spouses/domestic partners, and students who do not pay the health fee as part of their tuition have two options based on their coverage status.

PLEASE NOTE: Office visit fees can vary depending upon whether you are uninsured or insured and what type of benefits are offered through your plan. Many plans have a specific amount that must be paid out of pocket by the patient before the insurance will begin to cover services. When you are seen by a medical provider for an injury or illness, the more complex your situation is, the more likely the charge will be on the higher end.

Feel free to contact Patient Financial Services before scheduling an appointment if you would like to get an estimate for your specific situation – we are here to help! Call (352) 273-4546 or email insurance@shcc.ufl.edu.

  • INSURED: Patients will be billed for the visit according to their insurance, including any co-pays applicable for the office visit and charges for services rendered. No money is due at the time of service, however, patients will receive a paper bill in the mail for the final amount due from Florida Clinical Practice Association.
  • UNINSURED: Patients will be billed for the visit according to the level of care needed, including the office visit and charges for services rendered. No money is due at the time of service, however, patients will receive a paper bill in the mail for the final amount due from Florida Clinical Practice Association.
