The mission of the Radiology Department is to provide high quality routine diagnostic imaging services to the students of the University of Florida and to work as an integral part of the Student Health Care team. We strive to provide the medical staff with the best possible radiographic information with which to successfully diagnose and treat the student patients. We accomplish this mission by insuring that the department is staffed with properly trained, experienced, registered technologists. The technologists work closely with the practitioners to insure that every diagnostic study ordered will encompass the area of interest and can provide the information the practitioner is seeking.

The technologists are in close, daily contact with the consulting radiologist and prepare all exams for interpretation. The technologists are responsible for insuring that each study performed is interpreted and the provider receives an authenticated report. The technologists also act as liaisons between the practitioners at SHCC and the Radiologist.

In addition to radiographic studies, the technologists also perform routine 12 lead electrocardiograms and are responsible for obtaining interpretations for these studies from the consulting cardiologist.

The staff coordinates and schedules advanced level radiographic procedures at alternate facilities when such exams cannot be performed at the Student Health Care Center.

As part of our unique mission in student health, we use every opportunity to educate the students and staff about diagnostic radiology, both its benefits and risks. This is accomplished this through clinical contact in the department, as well as through planned lectures to student classes and staff seminars. To be successful in this endeavor, we must remain educated ourselves. We do so by seeking continuing education opportunities whenever possible.

The department is committed to a philosophy of total quality assessment and improvement. We practice continuous evaluation of our strengths and weaknesses; educate when warranted, change the process if necessary to improve performance, and then reevaluate the impact of these changes on our service.
