About SHCC
At the Student Health Care Center at UF, our medical staff is comprised of licensed professionals and board certified physicians who are also faculty of the College of Medicine. As home to one of the few accredited student health centers in the nation, the physicians and staff at the SHCC strive to provide exceptional care to all students and faculty.
Once admitted to the University of Florida, students are assigned to a "Team" of physicians and staff at the Student Health Care Center for their primary care needs. Below is a list of medical staff that are on each team.
Team A
Ronald Berry, M.D.
Dr. Berry is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the UF College of Medicine, Department of Community Health and Family Medicine. He received his BS in Chemistry from the University of Florida in 1979 and his MD from the University of South Florida College of Medicine in 1982. Dr. Berry completed his residency in Family Practice in Pensacola, Florida in 1985. He is board certified in Family Practice. He has been a member of the SHCC medical staff since 1989.
Ann Grooms, M.D.
Dr. Grooms is a UF Team Physician and Clinical Assistant Professor within the UF college of Medicine Department of Community Health and Family Medicine. Dr. Grooms earned her BS at the University of Tennessee Knoxville and MD at University of Tennessee-Memphis. She completed a residency in pediatrics as well as a fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Grooms serves as team physician for many of the UF female athletic teams. She is board certified in pediatrics and is a charter member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine.
Susan Nesbit, ARNP
Susan Nesbit received her undergraduate degree in Nursing in 1987 and her Masters Degree in Family Nurse Practitioning in 1992. Both degrees were from University of Missouri located in Columbia, Missouri. She spent a year working in orthopedics and a year working for Planned Parenthood. The rest of her work has been in private family practice clinics, both in Missouri and Florida. She joined the UF Student Health Care Center in the summer of 2007. Along with the responsibilities of providing health care to the UF students, she serves as a clinical preceptor for the UF Nurse Practitioner students. She enjoys the challenges of Primary Care and hopes to make a difference in the lives of the individuals that she cares for.
Team B
Phylis Craig, ARNP
Ms. Craig received her undergraduate degree in Nursing from Florida State University (don't worry she's a Gator now) and her graduate degree Masters in Nursing with Specialty in Nurse Midwifery from Columbia University in New York. She practiced as a Certified Nurse Midwife prior to starting at UF Women's Clinic in 1983. Ms. Craig also has special training and recognition in Colposcopy and a clinical interest in chronic vaginitis. She is very proud of the SHCC's Women's Clinic, which provides complete contraceptive services offering all FDA approved contraceptive choices. Ms. Craig is also involved in clinical research through Community Health and Family Medicine.
Jackie Davis, ARNP
Ms. Davis received both her undergraduate degree in Nursing, and her Masters in Nursing (specialty area of Midwifery) here at UF (Go Gators!). She worked as a nurse midwife at a hospital based practice until 2002, when she joined the Women's Health Team here at SHCC. She is also certified in colposcopy, and speaks Spanish. Ms.Davis enjoys working at SHCC, where she feels she can help empower women in their choices regarding their sexuality.
Susan Ryals, ARNP
Ms. Ryals is excited to be back working with women at UF where she graduated from the college of nursing in the 70's. She lived in Broward Hall (4th floor, women only dorm) during panty raids from the men's dorms, curfews, a real live albert alligator mascot, beating Georgia was great and the infirmary hospital (her room is where the hopital beds were). Her goal as a nursepractitioner is to assist students to get the most out of college life by remaining healthy and planning for a long term healthy lifestyle. Go Gators!
Krin Cosner, ARNP
Ms. Cosner received her BA in 1973 from SUNY at Stony Brook, NY in social sciences and a BSN from UF in 1983 and a MSN with a specialty in nurse-midwifery in 1988 from the University of Florida. She practiced as a nurse-midwife in Ocala, Florida until 1996 when she went to Honduras to work in women's health for a year. She continues her travels and to dream about practicing women's health abroad. In the meantime, she loves the women's clinic and the students she cares for and is often provoked to pursue projects and further her expertise. She is trained in colposcopy and currently working on certification.
Pam Taylor, ARNP
Ms. Taylor received her A.S./R.N. degree from SFCC/Gainesville in 1981 and did Public Health Nursing in Alachua County, before being sponsored to attend Emory University Regional Training Program in 1988 to receive a Nurse Practitioner certification in Ob/Gyn. She is certified in women's health by NCC (National Certificate Corporation). Ms. Taylor stresses prevention and wellness in her practice with special emphasis on psychosocial issues.
Team C
Boyd Kellett, M.D.
Dr. Kellett received his BS in Biology from Memorial University of Newfoundland and his MD from McGill University. He then served as a Surgical resident for three years at Canadian Forces Hospital, Kingston, Ontario. He earned an MBA at the University of Southern Mississippi while at the same time serving as Student Health Director and Team Physician. Currently, Dr. Kellett oversees the SHCC Occupational Medicine Program. In addition to his duties at the SHCC, Dr. Kellett is also the Medical Director at Tacachale Center of Excellence and is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the UF College of Medicine Department of Community Health and Family Medicine. He has previously served as Director of the SHCC. His special interests include agromedicine and sports medicine.
Tony Mennella, PA-C
Mr. Mennella graduated from the University of Florida Physicians Assistant Program. Prior to this he served 4 years as a Hospital Corpsman with the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. He is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. His special interests are occupational/environmental medicine and sports medicine.
Team D
Susan Greishaw, ARNP
Mrs. Greishaw earned a BS in Nursing at Villa Maria College and a MS in Medical-Surgical Nursing from the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University. She earned a post-masters certificate as a Family Nurse Practitioner from the UF College of Nursing and is certified as a family nurse practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Erlinda Collante, M.D.
Dr. Collante is a staff physician and a Clinical Assistant Professor with the University of Florida College of Medicine and with the Department of Community Health and Family Medicine. She is a Board Certified Physician and a member of the American Academy of Family Practice.
Phil Arnold, PA-C
Mr. Arnold earned his AS in Medicine at U.S. Army-Baylor University and a BS in Medicine at the University of Florida Physician Assistant Program. Prior to his formal training he served 12 years as a medic in the U.S. Army Special Forces. He is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Mr. Arnold has a special interest in Tropical Medicine.
Michele Emery, M.D., MPH
Dr. Emery graduated with a BS in biology and a minor in psychology from Oral Roberts University. She earned her MD and Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine from Tulane University. She then served her residency in Family Practice at Florida Hospital of Orlando. Dr. Emery has worked in a variety of clinical situations, including a four year position in Guatemala, practicing medicine and coordinating mission trips for visiting medical teams. Dr. Emery is board certified in family practice and has special interest in tropical medicine.

Mickey Bath, PA-C
Mr. Bath earned his AA in Liberal Arts at Hillsborough Community College and a BS in Medicine at the University of Florida Physician Assistant Program. Prior to his formal training he served 6 years as a medic in the U.S. Army Special Forces. He is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Mr Bath has extensive experience in treating musculoskeletal injuries.
Jay Clugston, M.D.
Dr. Clugston is a Clinical Assistant Professor within UF College of Medicine, Department of Community Health and Family Medicine. Dr. Clugston graduated from Davidson College with a BS in Chemistry before earning his MS in Agroforestry at UF. He went to medical school at the University of Florida and served his residency in family medicine at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Dr. Clugston then completed a primary care sports medicine fellowship at the South Bend Indiana Sports Medicine Institute and the University of Notre Dame. He is board certified in family practice and holds a certificate of added qualification in sports medicine. Dr. Clugston runs the sports medicine clinic at SHCC and serves as a Team Physician for UF.
Jocelyn Gravlee, M.D.
Dr. Gravlee received her M.D. from the University of Florida where she also completed her Family Medicine Residency. Dr. Gravlee completed a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at the University of Michigan and is board certified in both Family Medicine and Sports Medicine. Her interests include sports medicine and medical education. Dr. Gravlee provides medical services at the UF Student Health Care Center. She also serves as the Team Physician for the University Athletic Association (UAA).
Cheri Sellers, PA-C
Cheri was a combat medic in the Army prior to going to PA school and graduating from UF in 1993. She worked here at the Student Health Care Center until 2006 and returned in 2008. Ms. Sellers also works in a local Emergency Room part time. She is married and has two daughters.
Team F
Alicia Maun, M.D.
Dr. Maun earned her medical degree from the Far Eastern University Institute of Medicine in Manila, Philippines. She completed her internship and residency from St. Elizabeth Hospital in New Jersey and the Jewish Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. She is board certified in Family Practice and is currently an Assistant Clinical Professor with the University of Florida Department of Community Health and Family Medicine. Dr. Maun serves as the Continuing Medical Education (CME) Coordinator for the SHCC Clinical Staff. She has been a member of the Medical Staff since 1977 and has previously served as Associate Director and Interim Medical Director. Dr. Maun has special interests in patients' spiritual health and nutrition.
Abigail L. Gabriel, MSN, ARNP
Ms. Gabriel graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Texas Tech University prior to earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Florida in 1992. After 9 years of nursing in the surgical floor and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Shands Hospital at UF, she received her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Florida. Ms. Gabriel joined the Student Health Care Center July 2007.
Team H
Richard J. Rathe, M.D.
Dr. Rathe received his BA from Carleton College and his MD from the University of Minnesota. He served his residency at Cheyenne Family Practice Residency, University of Wyoming. Dr. Rathe completed a Fellowship in Medical Informatics at Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Rathe is board certified in Family Practice. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Community Health and Family Medicine and Associate Dean for Information Technology UF College of Medicine.
Mary Thorkildson, ARNP
Mrs. Thorkildson earned both her BS and MS in nursing at the University of Virginia. She completed the Nurse Practitioner Program at the University of Florida College of Nursing. She is certified in family practice by the American Nurse Credentialing Center.
Karen Brennan, RN
Karen Brennan earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northern Michigan University. She has been working for the Student Health Care Center since 1996.
Additional Providers
Guy W. Nicolette, M.D.
Dr. Nicolette went to medical school at the University of Texas, and completed a residency in Family Medicine at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center. He continued his training with a Sports Medicine fellowship at the University of Oklahoma. He served as a team physician for University of Florida Athletic Association from 1996-2001. Currently, he is the Chief of Staff at the Student Health Care Center.
Sheryl Heinicka, ARNP
An R.N. since 1986, Mrs. Heinicka received her ASN in Nursing from Piedmont Virginia Community College and a Bachelor of Science from the Medical College of Virginia - Virginia Commonwealth University. After ten years of nursing in the emergency room, community health, and home health areas, she received a Master of Science in Nursing degree in 1996 from the University of Virginia. Her degree specialty was in the dual Home Health Nursing and Family Nurse Practitioner program. She has practiced as a Family Nurse Practitioner since 1996, and has been with SHCC since 2001. She also serves as a preceptor for nurse practitioner students from the University of Florida School of Nursing. She is Board Certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner with the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Phillip Barkley, M.D.
Dr. Barkley is the Director at the UF Student Health Care Center and a Clinical Associate Professor within the UF College of Medicine, Department of Community Health and Family Medicine. He received his BA in Psychology and MD from Southern Illinois University. He served his residency in Internal Medicine at Michigan State University. Dr. Barkley directed the McKinley Health Center at the University of Illinois, the Health Center at Bradley University and was Chief Medical Officer at Virginia Tech before coming to UF. He is a member of the American College of Physician Executives and has served as President of the American College Health Association. He is board certified in internal medicine.
Susan Wilson-Stern, ARNP
Susan Wilson-Stern is a Family Nurse Practitioner who has returned to the UF community after 17 years. She graduated from UF with high honors in 1990 with a BSN and worked at Shands as an intensive care nurse and as nurse coordinator of the Laser Angioplasty of the Coronary Arteries program. She also helped begin the Transesophageal Echo program at Shands. Susan earned her MSN at Michigan State University and worked in a very busy family practice doing primary care in Okemos, MI. She later moved to the Boston Area and worked in Student Health at Harvard University. She has experience in addictions medicine, dual diagnosis treatment, chronic pain management and counseling.
