Loestrin FE 1UPDATE 11/8/2011: Due to low supply, the SHCC is now limiting customers to one pack of Loestrin 24 FE clinic packs per month.

UPDATE 10/24/2011: Loestrin 24 FE clinic packs are back in stock!

The SHCC Pharmacy is currently out of Loestrin 24 FE clinic packs due to a manufacturing issue, but we can substitute Junel FE 1/20.

What’s the difference? Junel FE 1/20 is the exact same medication (same hormones, same dosage) as Loestrin 24 FE; however, Loestrin 24 FE has 24 active tablets and 4 inactive/iron tablets, whereas Junel FE 1/20 has 21 active tablets and 7 inactive/iron tablets, resulting in a longer period (menses).

Patients currently taking Loestrin 24 FE have two options:

  • You may opt to switch to the generic equivalent Junel FE 1/20, which costs $26 per month.
  • You may stay with the Loestrin 24 FE and receive the retail pack, which costs $100 per month.

Undergraduate students with university-sponsored insurance can choose the retail pack and pay a $25 copay per month. PLEASE NOTE: GatorGradCare and PostDocCare insurance (BCBSF) will not pay for Loestrin 24 FE retail packs.

Students may use the Alachua County prescription discount card to reduce their out-of-pocket cost. The SHCC Pharmacy is also trying to obtain manufacturer discount cards to reduce the cost of the medication. We appreciate your patience as we work through this issue.
