About GYT

- Patients who have symptoms should make an appointment with their assigned medical team/provider, as they cannot be seen in this clinic.
- This clinic follows current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) testing frequency guidelines. For more information on what’s right for you, please visit the American Sexual Health Association’s website, ashasexualhealth.org.
What to Expect
GYT is here to provide a safe, confidential, and low-cost way for students to get tested for STIs. We understand that taking care of your sexual health can sometimes feel intimidating, but our compassionate team is committed to ensuring you feel comfortable and respected every step of the way. Here’s a brief overview of what you can expect when you come in for testing:
- Checking In: When you arrive on the third floor, you will check in at a kiosk and fill out some basic paperwork. Rest assured; all your information will be kept strictly confidential.
- Meeting with Your Health Educator: Once you’ve checked in, a health educator will call your name and guide you to a private office—similar to what you might experience when meeting with a counselor.
- Personalized Care: During your appointment, your health educator will ask you some questions about your sexual health and go over the different testing options available to you. Together, you’ll create a personalized plan for your testing, and you’ll be in control of which tests you want to take and which ones you may want to skip.
- Testing: After your appointment, the health educator will send your testing orders to the lab. The tests may include a blood draw and a urine sample. Other testing options include oral, rectal and vaginal swabs. All swab specimens are self-collected by the patient in a single-stall restroom. For patients with vaginas, the swab sample is recommended.
That’s it! Your health educator will discuss how you can access your results. We’re here to make this process simple, accessible and affordable for students. Thank you for trusting us with your health.
What kind of questions will I be asked?
During your appointment, your health educator will ask you a series of questions to help guide your care and ensure that you receive the most appropriate testing and education for your individual needs. These questions are designed to help you understand your options, make informed decisions about your sexual health, and promote safe sex practices for you and your partners—based on your comfort level and risk factors.
While these questions may feel personal, please know that they are part of a confidential, judgement-free process to provide you with the best care possible. Here are some examples of the questions your health educator may ask:
- Have you ever (or are you currently) sexually active?
- How many sexual partners have you had?
- Do you have sex with females, males or both?
- Do you engage in oral sex?
- Do you engage in anal sex?
- Do you use condoms, dental dams or other forms of protection?
- Are you currently experiencing any symptoms or changes in your sexual health? If so, what is different from what you usually experience?
- Have you ever tested positive for an STI?
- Are you aware of whether your partner(s) has any STIs or symptoms of STIs?
These questions are designed to be non-judgmental, and the goal is to ensure you have the information you need to make the best choices for your health. Your comfort and privacy are our top priority, and you are always in control of the conversation. If you ever feel uncomfortable with any of the questions, you are welcome to ask for clarification or skip anything you’re not ready to discuss. We’re here to support you in every step of the process.
