How do I make an appointment:
For new patients:
Call the SHCC at 352-392-1161 and follow the prompts to make an appointment. Be ready with your UF ID number and insurance card because the scheduler will need that information to create a medical record for you.
For established patients:
You can call the main number at 352-392-1161 and follow the prompts to make an appointment or you can request an appointment online via MyUFHealth/MyChart.
Do you have a cancellation policy?
Yes. When you schedule an appointment with the UF Student Healthcare Center we set aside enough time to provide you with the highest quality care. Should you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please contact our office as soon as possible, and no later than the business day, prior to your scheduled appointment. This gives us time to schedule other patients who may be waiting for an appointment.
Any patient who fails to show or cancels/reschedules an appointment and has not contacted our office by the business day prior to the appointment, will be charged a $25 fee. This fee is charged to the student’s bursar account, not billed to the insurance company. You may appeal the No Show fee by submitting an appeal form within 30 days of the missed appointment.
Can I walk-in for an appointment?
Unless you have been directed by our staff to walk in without an appointment, it is always recommended to call our main line (352-392-1161) to make an appointment. Same-day appointments are available but limited.
Is there parking available at the SHCC?
Yes. Parking is available but limited. Parking spaces labeled for patient parking are available on both sides of the building. If you drive to your appointment, you will need to obtain a parking pass for your vehicle from the front desk. This permit is only valid for 90 minutes from your check-in time.
Note: the unmarked parking spaces adjacent to the O’Connell Center are NOT for SHCC patient parking. Visitors who park there may be ticketed.
Can a friend or parent accompany me to an appointment?
Yes. You may have a trusted friend or family member with you during your appointment. Please note they will be asked to stay in the waiting room while a nurse performs the initial intake questionnaire and vitals. Once you are in an exam room and the provider has gained your written consent to share medical information with your guest, the nurse can escort your guest to be with you.
If you do not have a friend or trusted family member with you but would like to have a chaperone, you may ask your medical provider or nurse for one at any time during your visit.
What is the best way to communicate with my health care provider(s)?
By registering for a MyChart account, you will have access to message your provider through a secure platform. This is the best and fastest way to communicate with a health care provider at the Student Health Care Center.
Need access to MyChart? Please call us at 352-392-1161 and follow the prompts to speak to the Primary Care team. They will be able to help you get an access code.
I have a health-related question. Who can I talk to?
During regular business hours, you can call the main phone line (352-392-1161) and ask to speak with a nurse. Our nursing staff can talk to you, evaluate the problem and give general home care advice, if applicable, or advise you to come in for evaluation/treatment. After business, you can still call the main phone line and follow the prompts to speak to the on-call provider for medical advice.
Will I be assigned to a provider?
Students are assigned a primary care medical team and provider when they schedule their first appointment. This system enables patients to return to the same group of providers for continuity of care. If your primary care provider is unavailable, you will be able to see another provider at the SHCC.
What if I have a chronic condition (asthma, diabetes, IBS, etc.)?
If you have a chronic condition, we encourage you to schedule an initial evaluation appointment at the SHCC to provide past medical records and discuss a treatment plan while you are attending UF. Students may include parents or family members at this appointment if the SHCC is notified when the appointment is made. If the SHCC cannot adequately treat your condition, we will refer you to a qualified community provider and help with the transition.
Additional assistance is available for students with physical, learning, sensory or psychological disabilities through the Disability Resource Center.
Can the SHCC fill prescriptions?
Students may fill new and transfer most current prescriptions to the SHCC Pharmacy (Phone: (352) 392-1760 or (866) 941-1760 toll-free), which accepts a variety of commercial prescription plans when the associated plan’s card is presented at the time of purchase. Refills can be requested via phone or the MyChart app.
The SHCC Pharmacy accepts electronic prescriptions from any physician in the U.S. that subscribes to the Surescripts network. Find out more about e-prescriptions and whether your provider is a member at LearnAboutEPrescriptions.com.
Does the SHCC administer allergy injections?
If you are currently under the care of an allergist and receiving allergy immunotherapy, a registered nurse can administer your allergy shots in the Student Health Care Center Allergy Clinic.
Before coming to Gainesville and starting your education at UF, please present our detailed document, Allergy Injection Clinic Welcome Document, to your current allergist. Your allergist’s staff will prepare your allergy documents and vial(s) for the mail OR they may give them directly to you. Our Allergy Injection Clinic must have these documents to proceed.

How can I schedule a nutrition counseling appointment?

- An appointment will be made with your primary care provider to obtain a referral for nutrition services.

Is the Student Health Care Center FREE?
For the SHCC, the health fee covers patient financial responsibility associated with most SHCC office visits (for example, when a medical provider evaluates a sick patient but does not order any tests, procedures or prescriptions), and with telephone or online services initiated by the patient.
Patients are financially responsible for items not covered by the health fee. These include but are not limited to: health insurance; hospital visits; external community providers/facilities; physicals; procedures; X-rays; lab tests; medical equipment; prescriptions; non-prescription medications; vaccinations; and physical therapy. The health fee is not considered health insurance.
