About James R Clugston
Dr. Clugston currently serves as a Clinical Professor in the Department of Community Health and Family Medicine and a team physician for the University of Florida Athletic Association. He is the program director of the UF Sports Medicine Fellowship, which he founded in 2007. In January of 2017, he was awarded a joint appointment in the Department of Neurology.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Clugston is involved in various sports – and concussion – related projects. He currently serves on the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Concussion Safety Advisory Group; the National Football League’s Head Neck and Spine Committee; the Publication and Dissemination Committee of the NFL-NCAA Research Consortium; and the Concussion in Sport Group (CISG). Previously he served on the Operating Committee and the Publication Committee of the NCAA-Department of Defense Concussion Awareness Research and Education (CARE) Consortium; the NCAA COVID-19 Medical Advisory Group, and the SEC Return to Activity and Medical Guidance Task Force. He is a Fellow of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and a frequent speaker and presenter in the field of sports medicine.
Dr. Clugston earned his bachelor of science from Davidson College, graduated from medical school at the University of Florida, completed his residency in family medicine at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare, and completed a fellowship in sports medicine at the Notre Dame Sports Medicine Fellowship in South Bend, Indiana.
