Eligibility of Care
All students connected to the University of Florida are eligible get care at the UF Student Health Care Center (SHCC).
Student Health Fee
PLEASE NOTE: The University of Florida administers a variety of student fees, in addition to tuition, each semester to provide for valuable services that benefit the entire study body. For more information about all fees, visit the “Current Students” area of the UF Finance and Accounting / Bursar website to calculate tuition and fees based on program and original degree enrollment date.
What is the Student Health Fee?
The health fee is included in tuition for most students. It helps support campus health services.
Important: The health fee is not health insurance and does not cover all medical costs.
What does the Student Health Fee Cover?
For the SHCC, the health fee covers patient financial responsibility associated with most SHCC office visits (for example, when a medical provider evaluates a sick patient but does not order any tests, procedures or prescriptions), and with telephone or online services initiated by the patient.
Patients are financially responsible for items not covered by the health fee; these include but are not limited to: health insurance; hospital visits; external community providers/facilities; physicals; procedures; X-rays; lab tests; medical equipment; prescriptions; non-prescription medications; vaccinations; massage; and physical therapy. The health fee is not considered health insurance.
UF Online and PaCE Students
UF Online and PaCE students can choose to buy an optional fee package. Learn more information about this optional fee package.
Some UF Online students choose to live near campus in Gainesville or Alachua County and do want to make use of the on-campus services and facilities supported by the various University student fees. This package includes the health fee and gives access to campus services, similar to in-person students.
Spouses, Domestic Partners and Off-Semester Students
Students not paying the health fee (including spouses/partners and off-semester students) can still receive care at the SHCC.
PLEASE NOTE: Office visit fees can vary depending upon whether you are uninsured or insured and what type of benefits are offered through your plan. Many plans have a specific amount that must be paid out of pocket by the patient before the insurance will begin to cover services. When you are seen by a medical provider for an injury or illness, the more complex your situation is, the more likely the charge will be on the higher end.
Feel free to contact Patient Financial Services before scheduling an appointment if you would like to get an estimate for your specific situation – we are here to help! Call (352) 273-4546 or email insurance@shcc.ufl.edu.
